Insights Gained Following a Full Body Scan

A few periods back, I had the opportunity to experience a full-body scan in east London. The health screening facility utilizes ECG tests, blood tests, and a talking skin-scanner to examine patients. The organization states it can detect multiple underlying circulatory and energy conversion concerns, assess your probability of experiencing pre-diabetes and detect potentially dangerous moles.

From the outside, the center appears as a spacious crystal memorial. Inside, it's closer to a curve-walled relaxation facility with inviting dressing rooms, private assessment spaces and potted plants. Sadly, there's no pool facility. The complete experience takes less than an one hour period, and includes multiple elements a largely unclothed screening, various blood draws, a assessment of grasping power and, finally, through quick information processing, a doctor's appointment. Typical visitors exit with a relatively clean health report but awareness of future issues. During the initial year of business, the clinic states that one percent of its visitors were given potentially critical data, which is meaningful. The premise is that this information can then be shared with healthcare providers, guide patients to required treatment and, finally, increase longevity.

The Experience

My personal encounter was very comfortable. It doesn't hurt. I appreciated moving through their light-hued areas wearing their soft sandals. And I also valued the leisurely experience, though this is probably more of a reflection on the state of public healthcare after periods of financial neglect. Overall, 10 out 10 for the process.

Worth Considering

The real question is whether the value justifies the cost, which is more difficult to assess. Partly because there is no comparison basis, and because a glowing review from me would rely on whether it found anything – at which point I'd likely be less interested in giving it five stars. Additionally, it's important to note that it doesn't perform X-rays, brain scans or CT scans, so can solely identify blood abnormalities and skin cancers. Individuals in my family history have been affected by cancers, and while I was comforted that my pigmented spots look untoward, all I can do now is live my life anticipating an concerning change.

Healthcare System Implications

The problem with a two-tier system that commences with a private triage service is that the onus then rests with you, and the public healthcare system, which is possibly left to do the complex process of care. Healthcare professionals have noted that such screenings are more sophisticated, and include extra examinations, compared with standard health checks which screen people in the age group of 40 and 74.

Early intervention cosmetics is based on the pervasive anxiety that someday we will appear our age as we really are.

Nevertheless, professionals have commented that "managing the fast advancements in paid healthcare evaluations will be problematic for national systems and it is crucial that these screenings contribute positively to people's health and avoid generating supplementary tasks – or client concern – without clear benefits". Although I suspect some of the facility's clients will have additional paid health plans stored in their resources.

Wider Implications

Prompt detection is essential to treat major illnesses such as cancer, so the appeal of testing is obvious. But these procedures access something underlying, an version of something you see among various groups, that vainglorious segment who truly feel they can extend life indefinitely.

The facility did not create our focus on longevity, just as it's not surprising that rich people live longer. Various people even seem less aged, too. The beauty industry had been fighting the passage of time for centuries before contemporary solutions. Prevention is just a different approach of expressing it, and fee-based early detection services is a natural evolution of preventive beauty products.

In addition to cosmetic terminology such as "slow-ageing" and "preventive aesthetics", the purpose of prevention is not halting or turning back aging, words with which advertising authorities have expressed concern. It's about delaying it. It's representative of the measures we'll go to adhere to unattainable ideals – one more pressure that women used to criticize ourselves about, as if the blame is ours. The business of proactive aesthetics positions itself as almost sceptical of age prevention – especially surgical procedures and minor adjustments, which seem undignified compared with a skin product. Yet both are stemming from the ambient terror that one day we will show our years as we really are.

My Conclusions

I've tested numerous topical treatments. I enjoy the process. And I would argue certain products make me glow. But they don't surpass a proper rest, good genes or adopting a relaxed approach. Nonetheless, these represent methods addressing something outside your influence. No matter how much you accept the reading that ageing is "a perceptual issue rather than of 'real life'", culture – and cosmetics companies – will still have you believe that you are elderly as soon as you are past your prime.

Theoretically, such screenings and similar offerings are not about escaping fate – that would constitute ridiculous. Additionally, the positives of early intervention on your physical condition is clearly a distinct consideration than early intervention on your facial lines. But in the end – examinations, products, whatever – it is essentially a struggle with the natural order, just addressed via slightly different ways. Having explored and utilized every aspect of our world, we are now trying to conquer our own biology, to defeat death. {
